We’re a group of gamers who get together through the internet to play Artemis (and other games) online. We use Teamspeak for voice chat, and try to stay in character when we’re playing. This makes the game more fun, and adds a sense of continuity – a feeling that we’re in a consistent universe, because the game by itself doesn’t provide this.
As characters in this fictional universe, the USN is a bit like the United Nations or NATO. It’s a half-military, half-explorer based group that is funded by a treaty between Earth and five other spacefaring civilizations. The USN describes themselves thus:
The United Stellar Navy is a civil defense and exploration force made from USFP treaty members who work hard to improve the quality of life in the galaxy, prevent the unnecessary loss of life on a daily basis, and support scientific and exploratory goals for the good of all citizens. The USN has approximately 93,200 officers and enlisted personnel, with five bureaus of focus: Field Exploration Operations, Technical Services, Scientific Discovery Services, Civil and Commercial Transport Enforcement and Protection, and Investigative Services. More than half of all USN staff work in a variety of non-commissioned jobs to support the overall mission.
Any interested gamers can join the USN. If you want to be in our universe, we want you over here. We do ask that you abide by our equity statement, and stick with our conventions – ranks, ship naming conventions, maneuver names, and so on.
Here are the founding guidelines.
- The United Stellar Navy has one purpose: to help people have fun playing Artemis. We do this by hosting games ourselves, building a developing and persistent story line, and by welcoming and giving training to new players and people who want to play.
- The only requirement for membership is a desire to play Artemis.
- We speak out against exclusion of people and recognize the value of a diverse community, and encourage cross-cultural leadership.
